DESCRIPTION

A two candle sconce designed by Hans-Agne Jakobsson, produced by his own company, Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB sometime between 1960 - 1970. The sconce is solid brass and has two removable bobeche. The sconce measures approximate 16 1/2 inches tall, the largest width is 7 3/4 inches and the sconce's furthest distance from the wall is 3 7/8 inches. The sconce has its original decal on the back. The model number of the design is L 142, this iteration with two candlesticks is quite rare. The protective coating has been removed, then cleaned and polished, no protective coating was added.

BIOGRAPHY OF THE DESIGNER

Born in 1919 in Gotland, Sweden, Hans-Agne Jakobsson was undeniably one of the world's most versatile and productive lighting designers, creating more than 2,000 models over a fifty year career. He apprenticed as a carpenter before studying architecture in Gothenburg, Sweden, then worked as an industrial designer for General Motors. After working as an assistant to designers Carl Malmsten and Werner West, he founded his own company in 1951; Hans-Agne Jakobsson AB in Markaryd, Sweden and began producing his own designs. Jakobsson was strongly inspired by Poul Henningsen's non-dazzle lighting, in which diffused indirect lighting structures a space and transforms the fixture into a sculpture. That aesthetic can be seen throughout his oeuvre.

CONDITION

Sconce is in good vintage condition. Some discolorations and moderate fine scratching on brass. The old lacquer has been removed and the sconce has been polished. A new lacquer was not added.
