Venini Inciso Lamp
Venini Inciso Lamp
DESCRIPTION
A beautiful shaded lamp by Paolo Venini for Venini from the mid 1950's. The lamp is "sommerso" which in English literally means "submerged". This technique is used to create several layers of glass (usually with different contrasting colors) inside a single object. This bottle appears to be clear glass incased in blue / amber glass. The surface of the lamp base is "inciso" which in English means engraved or incised, this process is done by hand on a grinding wheel. A similar example is listed in the book Venini: Catalogue Raisonné 1921 - 1986, Diaz de Santillana, page 301. The shade is different that the catalog, so I am not certain it is original, the electrical fittings are different as well. The bottom of the lamp is acid etched: Venini / Murano / Italia and there is remnants of a Venini sticker.
CONDITION
The lamp is in very good vintage condition. The lamp is composed of the inciso body, electrical fittings and a frosted glass shade. The inciso base is in very good vintage condition with some flea bite chips on the inner ring of the base, the electrical fittings are all original, I have the european plug, but the plug has been replaced for american use, both plugs come with the lamp and the lamp shade has no chips or cracks, but some discolorations inside the shade. Research suggests the shade may not be original to the lamp.
