Eames DAX - 1 Chair

Eames DAX - 1 Chair
DESCRIPTION
The Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller fiberglass arm chair was introduced sometime between 1950 - 1953. Given the X cross legs, large rubber mounts, boot glides and the red label, which is called the Herman Miller Red Venice label, indicates the chair was made in the 1954 - 1955 time frame. From the 1955 - 1956 Herman Miller catalog, the fiberglass color is Parchment, the slip cover is upholstered in "Raw Umber" colored fabric and the legs have boot glides. Herman Miller called the chair model DAX - 1, which was in desk / dining height, the legs have the "bright plated' finish and rubber boot glides. An early example of this chair with the original upholstered seat makes the chair quite rare and hard to find. Definitely a Charles and Ray Eames collector piece. The chair measures as follows:
Back - 29 1/2 inches
Arm Width - 25 inches
Depth - 23 1/4 inches
Seat Height - 18 inches
Seat Depth - 17 inches
Seat Width - 15 inches
CONDITION
Good vintage condition, fiberglass body no bruises, indentations or cracks. Base shows discolorations on the metal legs. The upholstery has soil spots, discolorations and wear, the foam has hardened, but has not disintegrated. Glides are replacements.
SHIPPING
Given the size of the chair, shipment will have to be done by the buyer using a shipping means of their choice. R.A.Comer would be happy to work with the buyers choice of shipper.
