Nils Landberg EXPO Bottle
Nils Landberg EXPO Bottle
DESCRIPTION
Nils Landberg (1907 - 1991) was a Swedish glassware designer. Upon completing his studies at Konstindustrieskolan (School Of Arts And Crafts) in Gothenberg in 1925, he joined the newly established engraving school at Orrefors from 1925 to 1927. Around 1935 Landberg began creating his own designs for Orrefors and became a member of its in house design team. During the 1950's, Landberg experimented with abstracted and attenuated forms using both clear and delicately tinted glass. The resulting designs possessed an inherent tension due to his pushing the limits of the medium's tensile strenght as far as possible. His famous Tulpan-glas (Tulip glass) of 1957 with its slender waistwas blown as a single piece and received a gold medal at the 1957 (XI) Milan Triennale. Landberg's "Expo" line was introduced sometime in the 1960's. Landberg retired from Orrefors in 1972 and in 1986 the Orrefors Museum held a retrospective exhibition of his glass designs.
